Some estate agents, financial advisers and mortgage companies are recommending that you use their “panel solicitors” or state they offer “inclusive legal packages” which require you to use their preferred lawyers. However, you need to be aware that the service may be geared to the convenience of the mortgage company or the agent rather than you. It is highly likely that your conveyancing will be handled at a bulk processing centre potentially hundreds of miles away from you. These are often run on a call-centre basis, using unqualified staff and making face to face meetings or the execution of documents very problematic.

Despite what the mortgage provider or agent may say, you have the right to choose the solicitor or firm you would like to act for you.
