Sevenoaks office

Richard is a partner in the Dispute Resolution team with a specialism in Insolvency & Restructuring work.

Richard is aware of the difficulty, both professionally and personally, that directors will face when dealing with the issues that arise out of their company going into insolvency.

As a result, Richard adopts the approach with his clients to provide honest, straightforward advice, so as much as possible, to take the stress away from what can be a difficult time.

Where necessary Richard can use his experience to introduce his clients to third parties – such as insolvency practitioners, accountants and financial planners – to ensure that the advice provided is as comprehensive as possible to allow the client to feel that they are capable of moving forward and getting the best out of the situation they find themselves in.

Richard principally deals with:

  • Insolvency litigation issues
  • Bringing cases against directors on behalf of liquidators and administrators
  • Defending directors involved with cases being bought by insolvency practitioners
  • The breaching of director duties
  • Director disqualification cases
  • Personal insolvency issues
  • Petitioning for bankruptcy
  • Annulment applications
  • Applications to sell property on behalf of the trustee in bankruptcy

Richard has been involved in and conducted numerous hearings in the County Court and High Court, as well as mediations and round table settlement meetings.

Before joining Thackray Williams in 2024, Richard qualified at a firm in London before working at several large regional Kent firms, before moving back to work in London from 2016 to 2018 and then moving to a large regional firm in Kent in 2018, where he worked for 6 years as both partner and head of department.

Richard lives in Kent with his family and when he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, taxiing his kids to their various sporting events, playing golf and being out on his bike.
